PROMPT stands for Project Resource Organisation Management Planning Technique. PROMPT was a project management framework for the development and support of IT systems. It was developed by Simpact Systems Ltd in response to a requirement from the UK government, and influenced the development of later frameworks, particularly PRINCE and PRINCE2. PROMPT focused on a number of key aspects of IT project management: strategic planning, system development, operations and maintenance, quality assurance and support tools. The systems development aspect of PROMPT was adopted by many parts of UK government in 1983.
